This course provides practical first aid training for individuals working within education and care environments, equipping participants with the skills and knowledge required to respond effectively to emergencies in accordance with workplace procedures, legal requirements, Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, and other recognised Australian clinical standards.
Participants will learn how to identify signs of illness and injury, access emergency medical assistance, and provide appropriate first aid treatment using action plans, equipment, and available resources. Training includes performing CPR and defibrillation, administering adrenaline autoinjectors for anaphylaxis, providing asthma medication, managing bleeding and shock, and applying immobilisation techniques for fractures, sprains, strains, dislocations, and envenomation injuries.
The course also covers basic anatomy and physiology, with a focus on the differences between adults, children, and infants when providing CPR and first aid care. Participants will develop the skills to respond to acute illnesses and serious medical emergencies involving children and infants, including situations requiring immediate ambulance assistance, while effectively communicating incident information to parents, caregivers, and emergency services personnel.
In addition, participants will learn how to complete incident reports and documentation, participate in debriefing processes to improve emergency response procedures, recognise the psychological impact emergencies may have on themselves and others, support children experiencing emotional distress, and seek additional assistance when required.
